The 1/2 Cent sales tax has a 35-year history
The Sales Tax has funded numerous improvements in public works, public safety, parks, technology, and cooperative projects with Cole County. These improvements totaled over approximately $25 million over the past five years.
public works
The Sales Tax has improved traffic flow at several key intersections, allowed for the overlay of many streets, construction and repair of sidewalks, improvements to the stormwater system, and much more.
public safety
The Sales Tax funded a relocation and new fire facility for Station 2. It also funded an upgrade to the fire department’s communications and fire truck leases. The police department received funding for equipment replacement and upgrades as well as funding for an emergency response vehicle.
Parks
The Sales Tax allowed for the continued development of and repairs to our Greenway Trail. It also funded recreation facility renovations, improvements to Community Park and Washington Park, athletic field improvements, and more.
Technology
The Sales Tax has funded IT equipment, phone system upgrades, improvements to the GIS system, database improvements, and more.
city-county projects
Examples of these projects include replacement of the Dunklin Street bridge, improvements to East High Street reconstruction, rail improvements on Militia Drive, airport and transit improvements, construction of Cavalier Drive, and more.
